Do you find you get blocked on Instagram? Not sure how many likes are okay? How many comments to post?

This little article will explain all.

How many ‘Likes’ can you do?

Maybe more than you thought – up to120 per hour! (who has the time) but only up to 300-500

per day. Best practise is to do small bite size chunks throughout the day.

Instagram ‘Comment’ limits

Up to 200 per day but don’t ‘like’ or ‘comment’ too fast, wait 20-30 seconds between each or Instagram might think you’re a bot and block you.

Follow limit

How many accounts can you follow per hour or day?

  • About 10 follows per hour
  • 100-150 per day

You can follow a maximum of 7500 accounts so if this is your business Instagram account don’t waste follows on accounts that are not your potential market.

Unfollowing limit

Want to unfollow some accounts? This is as important as following, get rid of the dead wood! But don’t do it all at once. Accounts become inactive, people forget about them or change their business, these accounts aren’t going to benefit you.

  • Unfollow 60 per hour
  • Unfollow about 150 per day
  • If you unfollow more than 150 per day, your account could get temporarily banned.

Instagram Tip: If you go into your account- click on following, Instagram will list 49 of the ‘Least interacted with’.

Direct Message limit

How many Direct Messages (DMs) can you do?

If this is a thing you do, keep it to round 50-70 per day and you shouldn’t get any problems. DM’s are annoying personally, if it’s ‘check out my website’ or ‘buy my service’ I see it as spammy.

Here are tips to not get blocked because of DMs:

  • Don’t send the exact same text to multiple people
  • Send personalized messages
  • If you receive a lot of DMs, try to reply to them in batches (some in the morning, mid-day and afternoon for example, so you don’t get action-blocked)

Combined actions limit

Combined actions are the combination of likes, comments, follows, unfollows and messages.

Overall, Instagram puts a limit on the total number of actions you can do in one day and it is around 500 per day.

Instagram post limit

How many posts can you post on Instagram in one day?

Instagram hasn’t revealed a limit. You can post as many times as you want.

However it is best to leave time between each post (a few minutes at least).

If you post too many posts all at once, the Instagram’s algorithm might think you’re a spam account and could block your account temporarily.

If you choose to pre- schedule your posts to Instagram, make sure you schedule your posts at least 5 minutes apart.

General rule is to be consistent and steady, don’t do everything in one go.

Hashtag limit

How many hashtags can you use on a post?

You can add up to 30 hashtags per post. Don’t add the same set of hashtags to every post, mix them up. Also, do you research – some hashtags are banned. A quick google search will tell you the latest ones.

Deleting posts

Not something a lot of people do unless they have made a spelling mistake but it is an option.

At the moment there is no limit on how many posts you can delete in one go.

Instagram limits for new accounts

Have a new Instagram account?

You will have to build up some trust, prove you’re not a spam or fake account, bot or sending out 100’s of free iPhones! therefore you will have limits.

If you have a new account:

  • Take it easy.
  • Wait 30-50 seconds between any actions.
  • To be safe, post no more than 5 times a day and wait at least 10-15 minutes between each post.
  • If you want to be extra safe, post only once a day.
  • Limit Direct Messages to 20-50 per day.

After 4 weeks, you can pick up speed and send more DMs.

What happens if you exceed Instagram’s daily limits?

You will get a temporary block – You can see a pop-up message that says “Try again later”

Your account could get deleted / banned temporarily or indefinitely.

How to avoid getting blocked or banned?

Super simple: Don’t act like a bot.

Here are 4 things you can do:

1. Go slower – Don’t do too many actions too fast.

2. Space out your Instagram tasks

3. Use your account regularly.

Why does Instagram have limits?

It is basically to spot spam and fake accounts. Spam and fake accounts usually like, comment and message a lot and quickly. Unfortunately plenty of fake accounts still get through. But you can still do your bit by reporting them and block them from your profile. Some people think keeping them is okay as it adds to your followers but these accounts won’t be a potential customer and won’t be buying your product.

How to spot a fake account

  • Anyone confessing you have just won an iPhone or comments on your post with a ‘Promote it on’ or ‘DM me’.
  • A large number of fake accounts confess to be male, have a limited number of pictures- around 6-8, often with their beloved dog or son and are all pretty much posted at the same time.
  • Their names quite often have a first name and a second name that are both first names, for example- ‘Alan Stevens’ or ‘James David’ – Apologies if your name really is James David.
  • They tend to be Doctors, businessmen or in the Army.

My rule is : if in doubt, block.

Instagram Tip: To hide spam comments on your feed, go to Settings- Privacy- Hidden Words- Manage List- Add Words.

To Stop winning iPhones: Settings – Privacy- @Mentions- people you follow
